Why Reusable Masks?

There are at least 8 Million Tons of Plastic that end up in our oceans every year. According to the National Environment Agency, Singapore itself discards 700 Million KG's of plastic waste every year & 93% of plastic waste are not recycled. Plastics take up 400 Years to decompose, and our excessive use of plastics is impacting ocean health & biodiversity. It is predicted that by 2050, there could be more plastics in the ocean than fish by weight.

Similarly, throughout this pandemic, discarded single-use face masks are a rising threat to the environment, and especially the ocean life. On a single day during the Covid-19 outbreak, the city of Wuhan in China had reportedly generated 200 tonnes of clinical thrash, mostly consisting of single-use face masks.

Single-use face mask are made of polypropylene, a material which is non-biodegradable - it doesn't decompose. The amount of single-use face masks polluting rivers, beaches, and big cities like Paris, Hong Kong & New York will continue to increase should we continue using these single use masks, which then eventually leads to detrimental high environmental costs that cannot be undone.
